1999 Plymouth Prowler
This is one of our coolest projects yet. The customer has had his 1999 Plymouth Prowler since new. He was absolutely in love with it, except for one thing.....it wasn't very fast.
Prowlers came equipped with a 3.5L V6 from the factory, a rear transaxle, and all aluminum and fiberglass construction. Basically they look fast when sitting still but can't walk the talk. There were plenty of people making superchargers, stroker kits, and many other "power" adders. But we kept thinking of the old adage "There is no replacement for displacement" Using that as our guidelines we got a brand new 6.1 SRT Hemi crate motor straight from Chrysler(same motor in new Chargers and Challengers)
There are many challenges when installing a bigger motor in a vehicle that wasn't designed for it from the factory. We started by fabricating custom motor mounts to utilize the factory subframe, then a custom bellhousing adapter to mate the hemi to the driveshaft. Alignment was critical here because the driveshaft spins constantly as fast as the motor does; unlike normal vehicles where the driveshaft is after the transmission.
The motor got upgraded with a CompCams Stage II camshaft, custom cold air intake, and a ported intake manifold and throttle body.
We also fabricated the entire exhaust and headers, all from 3" Stainless steel tubing, everything was TIG welded and then the exhaust was sent out for a ceramic coating inside and out.
